4 Year Old Kindergarten Curriculum

The 4K program here at Trinity is a very unique program that offers many gifts to your child. One of the greatest gifts is that we have the wonderful opportunity to share God’s love through Bible stories, songs, and chapel. Our 4K program at Trinity is a Kindergarten readiness program. Your child has to be 4 years old by September 1st in order to enroll. Something special that Trinity has to offer is that this school supports a 4K-8th grade program. 4K is part of a whole school community which offers a plethora of opportunities for your young child such as:

  • Participating in the Christmas Program
  • Participating in the Spring Musical
  • Singing in church once a month
  • Being involved with PTLS (Parents and Teachers of Lutheran Schools) events
  • Interactions between multi aged children through recess, reading, and chapel buddies
  • Being part of the Hot Lunch Program

Our 4K program is a full day every day program. It begins at 8:30 AM and goes until 3:30 PM each day (M-F). We do offer a half day option which is from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM (M-F), however the full day is highly recommended. Following a Monday through Friday schedule helps the child with consistency and routine. The 4K program here at Trinity is play based! It is VERY important to allow children free play during the day. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, play is good for a child’s health, independence, learning, and self-regulation. “A child can play in ways that let him/her connect new information with what he/she already knows. Play can also help him/her master stressful situations that interfere with learning.” (Illinois State Board of Education)The 4K program includes:

  • 3 Recess Periods (outside or in the gym)
  • Rest Time for full day students in the afternoon
  • Lunch Period for full day students (Hot lunch is provided from our school cook)
  • 2 Snack periods (Milk is provided for the morning snack)
  • Religion (Concordia Publishing- Voyages)
  • Bible stories, Praying, Singing Hymns, Puppets
  • Art/Music
  • Drawing, Painting, Coloring, Cutting, Crafts, Cooking, Sculpting
  • Singing, Dancing, Rhythms
  • Handwriting (Handwriting Without Tears)
  • Math
  • Sorting, Patterns, Counting, Measuring, Graphing, Recognizing Numerals 1-12
  • Science/Social Studies Themes
  • Foods, Seasons, Animals, Community Helpers, Holidays, Plants, Friends/Familiy
  • Reading
  • Author of the Month (We study an author each month by reading and discussing their stories)
  • Word Wall, stories read every day, classroom library
  • Computer Lab and School Library
  • We visit the school computer lab and library once a week. Students are able to check out books each week from our school library to take home and enjoy!
